Dr. Tillotson received her Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from the California State University of Northridge in 1991 and graduated with honors from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences in 1998. She then completed an internship at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in Los Olivos, California. In 2002, she completed an ACVIM approved residency in equine internal medicine at Colorado State University.
In 2004, Dr. Tillotson became Board-certified in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
During her specialty training, Dr. Tillotson completed a clinical master’s degree program focusing on infectious disease, specifically clostridial enterocolitis in neonatal foals. She has over 20 presentations and articles and is published in major scientific journals including the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Equine Veterinary Education, Veterinary Pathology, and the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science. She has also completed CSU’s course in Veterinary Acupuncture, as well as the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society’s certification exam. Most recently, Dr. Tillotson has furthered her interest and education in Equine Acupuncture from the Chi Institute in Florida.
Dr. KT grew up in Southern California showing hunters and jumpers, a passion that she continues. She and her husband, John Kiefer, have settled in Roxboro at Willow Creek Farm with their 5 dogs, Hunky Dori, Sexi Lexi, Buddy and the "puppies" Pippa and Zoey; 4 cats, Jack Sparrow, Andy and Sophie; and 5 horses GIgi, Lily, Cookie, Sassy and Hermione.
Donna Nelson is Dr. Tillotson's Registered Veterinary Technician. She graduated from Virginia Tech in 2005 with a bachelors degree in Animal Science with and emphasis in Equine Production and Business. In 2008 she attended Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC and graduated with her associates degree in Veterinary Technology. From there, Donna worked as a registered technician for 4 years before coming to Tillotson Equine. Donna has a special interest in hoof care. She is continuing her education by attending podiatry focused seminars and does therapeutic trimming.
Donna grew up in Occoquan, Virginia riding horses and showing. She and her husband Greg own/manage Triple Pines Farm, an Equine Retirement Facility in Alton, VA. They have three children, Shea, Wyatt and Bryce, four dogs Gus, Mick, Bess and Brock, four cats Captain America, Bucky, Thor and Loki, and the Guinness the wonder horse.
Ashley Richardson is Tillotson Equine's barn manager/ veterianry assistant. She is in charge of the day-to-day care of our resident and patient horses, as well as going to calls with Dr. Tillotson. Ashley excells at patient care, and has an eye for detail. She is extremely organized, thoughtful, and is a valuable asset to us here at Tillotson! Ashley has a Bachelors is Psychology and a second degree in Business Administration. She and her fiance Rich live in Roxboro, and welcomed their son Marshall in 2020. Ashley has four dogs for Marshall to enjoy, Thomas, Mimi, Cleo and Stella, her cats Boots and Nila.
Scott is WIllow Creek Farm's grounds manager. He is responsible for keeping our facilities in top shape. We always find projects for him to do, and he excels at taking on those tasks and fixing them right the first time! Scott is a jack of all trades and has competed in ski racing, sailing, trap and skeet, and trad climbing. He enjoys running marathons and completed the Blue Ridge 210 relay from Virginia to North Carolina. Scott also attended UC and SCAD, and was a member of the US Army.
